Home Planning & Zoning in Cook County

Zoning commonly includes regulation of the kinds of constuction activities which will be acceptable on particular open space, commercial or residential sites, the densities at which those activities can be performed (such as single family home or multiple unit structures), the height of buildings, the amount of space structures may occupy, the location of a building on the lot (setbacks), and the proportions of the types of space on a lot (for example, landscaped space vs. paved space).

Cook County Home Inspection

Many older porches in the Chicago area were built before home construction codes required them to be able to support a legally mandated minimum weight per square foot. People have been killed and injured by collapses of wooden porches. This occurrence, associated with wooden porches of older multistory apartment buildings has happened often enough in Chicago that city & county building inspectors make a point of evaluating porches when conducting inspections.

Cook County Regulations and Fire Prevention Code

Fire prevention code is also known as Fire safety code, or simply Fire code. It is enforced by fire prevention officers within municipal fire departments in Chicago and suburban Cook County. The Fire code sets residential construction requirements to prevent fires from starting or spreading. It is building code that specifically deals with fire prevention.

Pay attention to the Fire code when purchasing your home. The Fire code may have been updated since the previous home owner purchased the house or condo. A change of ownership can often trigger a structural review. The new owner may be required to apply for a building permit and make expensive updates to the home.

Local Suburban Demographics

The term describes 'population characteristics'. Demographics include age, income, race, mobility, educational attainment, home ownership, employment status, and even location. Distributions of values within a demographic variable, and across households, are both of interest, as well as trends over time. Demographics are primarily used in economic and marketing research.

Home Construction Permits

The number of residential construction projects can reveal a lot about a local area. Since building permits usually precede outlays for new home construction or a remodeling venture, they are often a leading indication of the rate of economic growth in that area.
